This recording explores internal derangement of the articular disk within the temporomandibular joint AND dysfunction in the muscles that surround and support the mandible, as well as how these issues can (and often do) overlap. This video reviews the anatomy of the joint and discusses how the various anatomical structures contribute to specific symptoms such as ear pain, pain behind the eye, headaches, jaw pain, neck pain, popping/clicking, and catching or actual locking of the joint. Specific treatment of these various symptoms is also reviewed, as well as which patients experience this most commonly and why. The relation of TMJ disorders/TMD to tongue tie, 4 bicuspid extraction/retraction orthodontia, and sleep apnea will also be discussed.
